Bagyong Kiko continue to intensify as it moves over the Philippine Sea, PAGASA said on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
According to PAGASA, Bagyong Kiko with international name Chanthu was located at at 1,020 km East of Central Luzon.
Kiko slightly intensified and now has a maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 215km/h and forecast to move west westward at 20 km/h.
Bagyong Kiko is expected to reach severe tropical storm category within 12 to 24 hours. PAGASA also said that will likely to intensify and may reach typhoon category by Thursday.
Kiko is forecast to move to the extreme northern Luzon portion and may not made a direct landfall. Afterwards, the typhoon will turn northwestward and pass near the southern coast of Taiwan on Saturday before making landfall in the vicinity of southeastern China on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
