Super Typhoon Maria maintained its strength as it moves Northwestward and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility or PAR on Monday, said weather agency PAGASA.
According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA, typhoon Maria is located at 1,820 km East of Northern Luzon (outside PAR) with maximum sustained winds 185 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 225 kph.
Super Typhoon Maria is forecast to move Northwest at 15 kph. It will be locally named as “Bagyong Gardo” once it enter PAR.
Maria will enter PAR on Monday and will not make landfall. However, it may enhance the Southwest Monsoon, which will bring monsoon rains over MIMAROPA and Panay Island until Tuesday (10 July).
Occasional rains is expected over Metro Manila, the rest of Western Visayas, and western sections of CALABARZON and Central Luzon.
Residents of the aforementioned areas, especially those living in low-lying and in mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate measures against possible flooding and landslides due to heavy rains
