Super Typhoon Maria “Bagyong Gardo” is now a Category-5 and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) next week.
According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA, Super Typhoon Maria is expected to enter PAR between Monday and Tuesday and it will be locally named as “Bagyong Gardo.”
It may not landfall in the Philippines but the typhoon may affect the country’s weather system next week. Maria also poses threat to Japan and eastern China.
As of Monday (July 9), Super Typhoon Maria is located at 1,165 km East of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 200 kph with gustiness of 245 kph.
It is forecast to move North Northwest at 30 kph.
Bagyong Gardo may enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) which will bring monsoon rains over MIMAROPA and Western Visayas, and occasional rains over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Aurora until Tuesday (10 July).
