Kara McCullough of District of Colombia is the crowned winner of Miss USA 2017 — she will represent the United States to this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
Kara McCullough bested 50 other contestants during the Miss USA 2017 competition held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
During the Top 3 Q&A portion, final word, the finalists were asked of what they think the role of feminism is in today’s society and if they would describe themselves as a feminist.
Here is District of Colombia’s wining answer: “I’d like to transpose the word feminism to equalism. Women we are just as equal as men when it comes to opportunity and the work place. As Miss USA, I would hope to promote women leadership worldwide.”

Other winners at the Miss USA 2017 pageant are Meridith Gould of Minnesota 2nd Runner-up and Chhavi Verg from New Jersey 1st Runner-up.
