According to news, the massive explosion occurred in the north municipality of Tianjin in China on Wednesday. The blast erupted from an unknown hazardous materials in shipping containers at a plant warehouse in the port zone at around 11.30pm.
AFP news agency reported that there were 50 people confirmed dead – including 12 firefighters – and as many as 700 injured.
The blast wave could be felt several kilometers, even the state earthquake agency detected the jolts it produces.
China Earthquake Networks Center reported the first and second blasts were equivalent to 3 and 21 tonnes of TNT.
The cause of the explosion is not yet clear.
