Australian surfer Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark in the middle of J-Bay Open surfing competition in South Africa.

Australian surfer Mick Fanning has been attacked by a shark the middle of J-Bay Open finals in South Africa.

The video footage captured the shark launching an attack from behind trying to knock Mick off the surf board.

Fortunately, the 34-year-old surfer was unharmed and was immediately picked up by the organizers to safety.

“I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away,” Fanning said.

“I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth to come at me. I punched it in the back,” he adds.
