Convicted 30-year-old Filipina Mary Jane Veloso was spared at the last minute of her scheduled execution in Indonesia.

“There was a last-minute plea from the Philippine President. There was someone who surrendered today. She claimed she was the one who recruited Mary Jane,” Indonesian Attorney General HM Prasetyo said in a statement.

The Department of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the news early Wednesday that Veloso is not among the executed drug convicts.

Charles Jose, spokesman for the DFA said: “We are relieved that the execution of Mary Jane has not been carried out tonight. The Lord has answered our prayers.”

Meanwhile, the eight others were executed including Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, three Nigerians, a Brazilianm a Ghanaian and an Indonesian.
