Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz have passed away, state television reported early Friday. He was 90.
The King of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz dies on Friday morning, January 23, 2015.
“His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1 a.m. this morning,” state television said in a statement.
Following King Abdullah’s death, his half-brother Deputy Prime Minister Salman bin Abdul Aziz immediately took his place and declared as the new ruler.
According to reports, the king was admitted to the hospital on December 31, 2014. He died of pneumonia.
