A giant 80-meter-wide crater opens up in a remote area of northern Siberia — no one is yet sure what caused the hole!
According to Siberian Times, the hole may actually have formed about two years ago, but previous reports and photos were thought to be fake. Now Russian scientists are trekking to the area to check it out and try to determine the cause.
Discovery says, “it’s not clear how deep the crater yet — but a ring of soil around the edge appears to have been thrown outside of the crater. Speculation about the cause of the hole includes an underground gas explosion or a meteorite hit.”
The above footage was taken in a patrolling helicopter at the place called Edge of the World in Yamal Peninsula of Siberia.
