President Rodrigo Roa Duterte showed off his leather shoes made by a 68-year-old Marikina shoemaker to Cabinet members on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
President Duterte proudly showed off the pair of Marikina-made leather shoes he was wearing during the first NSC meeting in Malacañan Palace on Wednesday.
According to the President, the shoes was sent to him by a lady whose father is a shoemaker in Marikina — identified as Rolando de Guzman Santos.

Duterte also praised Filipino craftsmen saying that they are among the best in and abroad.
“In craftsmanship, Filipinos are number one. Even in furnitures, no one can beat the Philippines,” said President Duterte.
Marikina is known as the country’s shoe capital and its local government is trying to revive the industry of shoemaking that is now being threatened by cheap imports from China.
