The Philippine government under the new Duterte administration has send Php 500M financial assistance to over 10,000 stranded OFWs in Saudi Arabia.
According to newly appointed DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, President Duterte send him to Saudi Arabia to check the situation of more than 10,000 OFWs laid off from their job.
“President Duterte instructed me to go here to find out the real situation,” said Bello.
The president also instructed him to “immediately gave whatever assistance they can give to the stranded OWFs.”
According Bello, they will give P20,000 to each displaced OFW plus P6,000 for their family back home.
It was reported that the stranded OFWs asked help from President Duterte. They also hoped that the President will tell their situation is Saudi during his first State of the Nation Address on Monday.
