Jaclyn Jose won the best actress award at the 69th Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Brillante Mendoza’s independent movie “Ma’Rosa.”
The 52-year-old actress was recognized for her captivating performance as a mother who forced to sell drugs to survive before falling prey to corrupt police.

The last time the Philippines won in Cannes Film Festival was the best director award of Mendoza for “Kinatay” in 2009.
Previous Filipino winners on the same category were Nora Aunor for “The Flor Contemplacion Story” in Cairo in 1995 and Eugene Domingo for “Barber’s Tales” in Tokyo in 2013.
