Live Update: Typhoon Agaton Enters Philippines

Typhoon Agaton is now moving closer to the Surigao region according to Philippine weather bureau PAGASA.

The low pressure are that brought torrential rains in the Mindano region has developed into a tropical depression. Local weather bureau named it as Agaton. It is the first typhoon to hit the Philippines in year 2014.

Typhoon Agaton was spotted 130 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 10 a.m.  It has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, and was moving southwest 5 kph.

Public Storm Warning Signal #1 (Winds of 30-60 kph is expected in at least 36 hours) – Surigao del Norte incl. Siargao Is., Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostella Valley.

Agaton will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern and Central Visayas, said PAGASA.

  • At 12:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression “AGATON” was located based on all available data at 150 km northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (9.4°N, 127.2°E). Maximum winds of 55kph near the center. Forecast to move Southwest at 5kph.
  • 5:00 PM forecast, Tropical Depression “AGATON” is expected to be at 80 km North of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 75 km East of Butuan City tomorrow afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, it will be at 50 km Southeast of Malaybalay, Bukidnon or 75 km Northwest of Davao City and at 130 km West of General Santos City by Monday afternoon.
  • At 6:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression “AGATON” was located based on all available data at 150 km Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (9.4°N, 127.1°E). Maximum winds of 55kph near the center. Forecast to move Southwest at 5kph.
  • At 12:00 MN, the center of Tropical Depression “AGATON” was estimated based on all available data at 180 km Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (9.5°N, 127.5°E). Maximum winds of 55kph near the center. Forecast to move Southwest at 5kph.
  • At 4:00 AM today, center of tropical depression “AGATON” was estimated based on all available data at 170 km northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur or 175 km east of Surigao City (9.7ºn, 127.1ºe). Northeast monsoon affecting Luzon.
  • At 11:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression “AGATON” was estimated based on all available data at 145 km East of Surigao City (9.8°N, 126.8°E).
  • At 4:00 pm today, the center of tropical depression Agaton was estimated based on all available data at 185 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 305 km southeast of Surigao City (8.6ºN, 128.0ºE) with maximum winds of 55 kph. Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon.
  • At 4:00 AM today Jan. 19, center of tropical depression “AGATON” was estimated based on all available data at 166 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur (8.0ºn, 127.8ºe). Northeast monsoon affecting Luzon.
  • At 10:00 AM today Jan. 19, the center of Tropical Depression “AGATON” was estimated based on all available data at 205 km Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or at 230 km East of Davao City (7.3°N, 127.9°E).
  • At 4:00 PM today, the center of tropical depression “agaton” was estimated based on all available data at 215 km southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or at 220 km east of Davao City (7.1°n, 127.8°e).
  • The province of Surigao del Norte has been put under state of calamity due to the continuous rains brought by typhoon ‘Agaton.’
  • At 4am today Jan. 20, the center of Agaton was spotted at 230 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur or 230 km east of Davao City with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center. It is forecast to move West Southwest at 5 kph.Winds measuring 30 to 60 kph may be expected in areas with public storm warning signal number 1 such as Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Compostella Valley in at least 36 hours.
  • Agaton has weakened into a Low Pressure Area. All public storm warning signals have been lifted.
  • At 10:00 AM today Jan. 20, the center of the Low Pressure Area was estimated based on all available data at 400 km East Southeast of Davao City or at 455 km East of General Santos City (6.3°N, 129.3°E).
