Live Update: Super Typhoon Haiyan, Yolanda to hit Philippines



HaiyanThe biggest storm on Earth in 2013 is about to hit the Philippines.

Haiyan known as Yolanda in the Philippines, is the strongest storm to hit the Pacific this year. The category five storm is moving towards the South East Asian nation with winds of up to 278 km/h (173mph).

According to BBC News, typhoon Haiyan is expected to make landfall at around 09:00 local (01:00 GMT) on Friday between Samar and Leyte, two of the Visayan Islands in central Philippines.

Schools and offices have already been closed in the region and thousands of people are being evacuated.

Flood waters quickly rose in Tacloban, Leyte on Friday morning, as typhoon “Yolanda” made landfall in nearby Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 4:40 a.m.
