Typhoon Bopha (local name Pablo) makes landfall in the Philippine island of Mindanao at 4:45 am local time on Tuesday bringing heavy rains and strong winds and forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes.
According to reports, at least 40 people are feared dead or missing, and is expected to rise. The storm have destroyed homes and brought down power and communication lines.
Bopha is a category 5 equivalent hurricane, having a maximum sustained winds of 140mph, has a 373-mile-wide rain band. It is the strongest storm to slam the southern part of Philippines this year.
