Last night on American Idol, the show tackles Elton John’s music. Again, it illustrated diverse performances from standouts to usual safe performances and forgettable ones. How you appreciate a song is always different for everyone. An audience may like or dislike someone’s performance depending on the type of music they like. But when you watch American idol, it’s not just the song that matters, it’s the artist who delivers the song and makes you wonder, “What the hell was that song, amazing!”, and it would probably be the first time you heard that song but still it’s the artist that usually counts.
Thia Megia’s lackluster performances made a lot of people doubt her ability and talent as an artist but I believe this night she made a difference with her song choice. She tackled the song “Daniel” that well suited her voice. Her voice and performance gave a lot of emotion contrary to her detractors that she is “robotic” in her performances.
A lot of comments have already been made regarding the way she performs and it always comes down to one word “boring”. Well, yeah right. It’s always about the song choices and the power of her voice is not that it needs an upbeat tempo, in my opinion, because we just need to hear her put more emotion in her songs and the tone and sweetness of her voice is just perfect.
Yeah! It was kind of safe for Thia to do another song that does not exude her vocal range. I mean can she really belt out a song like Pia or heck! like Jacob… Well, I guess no! But the thing about Thia’s voice is the purity of it, the tone… And the moment you hear her sing, it makes you want to want more. There is certain quality in her voice that I just can put a grasp on and that’s what makes it great, its raw talent.
Randy said that it was the relaxed side of her that people see the beauty of her voice. Well, yeah! And that is what she needs to focus herself onto. To further explore on that genre that exposes the true artist that she is.
As Steven Tyler said in his comment, “When you find the right song, the voice appears”, and I definitely agree to that. Her voice does suit the song, and let’s give her credit to that… But honestly, she needs to get out of her comfort zone and find that song that will get the crowd on their feet and yeah! An upbeat song would be a great change that will pump the hell out of her laid out (boring?) performances… I believe that Thia’s voice has substance. It has a certain quality to it that can soar great heights.
J.Lo raved her performance, “that was beautiful, that was really beautiful” and I definitely agree to that.
Yeah! Thia Megia may not be a consistent performer. She has ups and down and a few wow performances but that doesn’t change the fact that she can definitely sing her heart out in every song. She is young and needs to find the kind of artist that she wants to be but she has potential for improvement and she is definitely talented. Let’s just hope she finds it fast so we can definitely say for sure that she is the next American idol. I hope she makes it through the top 9 so we can see what more can she deliver in this competition.
